Brian E. Matthews is a founding Partner of the Firm.
Prior to founding the Firm, Mr. Matthews was associated with the firm of MacLachlan & Eagan LLP from 2005 until 2011, and then with Eagan & Matthews PLLC, being named a partner of that firm in 2013.
Mr. Matthews’ legal career has focused on all aspects of real estate transactions, land use, zoning, and land use and commercial litigation. Mr. Matthews regularly appears before the numerous municipal and regulatory boards on Eastern Long Island, including the Town of East Hampton, Village of East Hampton, Town of Southampton, Village of East Hampton, Village of Sagaponack and Village of Sag Harbor. He also has extensive experience appearing before the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to obtain permits on behalf of clients, as well as the handling of Legislative and Adjudicatory Hearings and Issues Conferences to challenge the denial of any permits, and the negotiation and drafting of Consent Orders to address any claimed violations of the NYSDEC’s laws, rules and regulations.
Mr. Matthews also heads the Firm’s litigation practice focusing on land use and commercial matters, and involves the prosecution or defense of cases from preliminary proceedings through trial and any subsequent appeal. He has extensive experience in the drafting pleadings, motion practice, discovery and depositions, as well as settlement negotiations. He also has extensive experience preparing, writing and orally arguing appeals and motions to the New York State Appellate Courts.
Mr. Matthews received a B.A. in Political Science from Gettysburg College in 1998 and a Juris Doctor and Certificate in Environmental Law from Pace University School of Law in 2004. He was admitted to practice in 2005 in the Appellate Division, First Department.
Mr. Matthews is the President of the Montauk Friends of Erin, a 501 (c) non-profit civic and social organization that provides charitable support to a number of community organizations in and around Montauk.
